1 And it came to pass that mankind had begun to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters had been born to them, 2 and the sons of the judges saw that they, the daughters of men, were beautiful, and they took women for themselves of all whom they chose. 3 And YHWH said, “My spirit will not strive in man to a distant age, for indeed, he is flesh, and his days will be 120 years.” 4 The giants were in the earth in those days, and even afterward, when sons of the judges came in to the daughters of men, and they had given birth for them those who were the mighty men from of old, famous men. 5 And YHWH saw that the wickedness of man was abundant in the earth, and every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the day. 6 And YHWH regretted that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved to His heart. 7 And YHWH said, “I will wipe away man whom I have created from off the face of the ground, from man to beast, to crawling thing, and to bird of the heavens, for I regret that I have made them.” 8 And Noah found favor in the eyes of YHWH.
9 This is the family history of Noah: Noah was a righteous man. He was perfect among his generations. Noah habitually walked with God. 10 And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 And the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and look, it was corrupted, for all flesh had corrupted its way on the earth.
13 And God said to Noah, “An end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is full of violence from their presence. And look, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make a ship of gopher wood for yourself. Make rooms within the ship, and cover it from inside and from outside with pitch. 15 And this is how you are to make it: 300 cubits is the length of the ship, 50 cubits its width, and 30 cubits its height. 16 Make a window for the ship, and finish it to a cubit from above. And put the opening of the ship in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third levels. 17 And I, look, I am bringing in the flood of waters on the earth, to destroy from under the heavens all flesh in which is a living breath. All that is in the earth will breathe their last. 18 And I will establish My covenant with you, and you will come into the Ark—you, and your sons, and your wife, and your son’s wives with you. 19 And of all that lives, of all flesh, bring two from every kind into the ship, to keep them alive with you. They must be male and female. 20 From the bird according to its kind, and from the livestock according to its kind, and from every crawling thing of the ground according to its kind, two of every kind will come to you, to keep them alive. 21 And you, take for yourself from all food that is eaten. And gather it to yourself, and it will be for you and for them for food.” 22 And Noah did according to all that God had commanded him. So he did.
