Genesis 25

1 And Abraham continued on and took a wife, and her name was Keturah. 2 And she gave birth to him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. 3 And Jokshan had fathered Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim. 4 And the sons of Midian were Ephah, and Epher, and Enoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah: all these were sons of Keturah. 5 And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac. 6 And to the sons of the concubines whom Abraham had, Abraham had given gifts, and sent them away from his son Isaac (in his being yet alive) eastward, to the east country. 7 And these were the days of the years of the life of Abraham, which he lived, 175 years. 8 And Abraham breathed his last, and died in a good old age, aged and satisfied, and was gathered to his people. 9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him at the cave of Machpelah, at the field of Ephron, son of Zoar the Hittite, which was before Mamre— 10 the field which Abraham bought from the sons of Heth—there Abraham had been buried, and his wife Sarah. 11 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac stayed by the Well of the Living One, my Beholder. 12 And, this is the family history of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s handmaid, had given birth to Abraham. 13 And these were the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their births: firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth, and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, 14 and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, 15 Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: 16 these were the sons of Ishmael, and these were their names, by their villages, and by their towers. Twelve princes according to their peoples. 17 And these were the years of the life of Ishmael, 137 years. And, he breathed his last, and died, and was gathered to his people. 18 And they stayed from Havilah to Shur, which was before Egypt, in your going toward Asshur. In the presence of all his brothers had he fallen. 19 And this is the family history of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham had fathered Isaac. 20 And Isaac was 40 years old in his taking Rebekah, daughter of Bethuel the Aramean, from Padan-Aram, sister of Laban the Aramean, to him for a wife. 21 And Isaac made a plea to YHWH before his wife, for she was barren: and YHWH accepted his plea, and his wife Rebekah conceived, 22 and the children struggled together within her, and she said, “If it is right—why am I like this?” And she goes to seek YHWH. 23 And YHWH said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from your bowels are parted. And the one people is stronger than the other people. And the older serves the younger.” 24 And her days to give birth were fulfilled, and look, twins were in her womb. 25 And the first came out all red as a hairy robe, and they called his name Esau. 26 And afterward his brother had come out, and his hand was taking hold on Esau’s heel, and one called his name Jacob. And Isaac was 60 years old in her giving birth to them. 27 And the youths grew, and Esau was a man acquainted with hunting, a man of the field. And Jacob was a plain man, inhabiting tents. 28 And Isaac loved Esau, for his game was in his mouth. And Rebekah is loving Jacob. 29 And Jacob boiled stew, and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Please let me eat some of this red-red thing, for I am weary.” Therefore one had called his name Edom. 31 And Jacob said, “Sell your birthright to me today.” 32 And Esau said, “Look, I am going to die, and what is this to me—a birthright?” 33 And Jacob said, “Swear to me today”: and he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob had given bread and stew of lentils to Esau, and he ate, and drank, and rose, and goes. And Esau despised the birthright.
