Genesis 4

1 And the man knew his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain (which sounds similar to Aquire), and said, “I have acquired a man by YHWH.” 2 And again she gave birth to his brother, Abel (which means Short-Lived). And Abel became a keeper of sheep, and Cain was a server of the ground. 3 And it came to pass at the end of some days that Cain brought from the fruit of the ground a present to YHWH. 4 And Abel also brought from the female firstlings of his flock, and from their fat. And YHWH looked with favor to Abel and to his present, 5 and to Cain and to his present He did not look with favor. And Cain became very angry, and his face fell. 6 And YHWH said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your face fallen? 7 Is there not, if you do well, acceptance? And if you do not do well, sin is lying at the opening, and its desire is for you, and you should rule over it.” 8 And Cain said to his brother Abel, ... And it came to pass in their being in the field, that Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and killed him.

9 And YHWH said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to Me from the ground! 11 And now you are cursed from the ground which has opened its mouth to receive the blood of your brother from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it will not continue to give its strength to you. Roaming and wandering you will be on the earth.” 13 And Cain said to YHWH, “My punishment is too great to bear. 14 Look, You have driven me today from off the face of the ground, and from Your face I am hid, and I will be roaming and wandering on the earth. And it will be that anyone finding me will kill me.” 15 And YHWH said to him, “Therefore, anyone who kills Cain, it will be avenged sevenfold.” And YHWH put a sign on Cain, that no one finding him would kill him. 16 And Cain went out from the presence of YHWH, and stayed in the land, moving about east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch. And he built a city, and he called the name of the city, according to the name of his son—Enoch. 18 And for Enoch, Irad was born, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech. 19 And Lamech took for himself two wives. The name of the first was Adah, and the name of the second Zillah. 20 And Adah gave birth to Jabal. He was the father of those who stay in tents and having livestock. 21 And the name of his brother was Jubal. He was the father of everyone handling harp and pipe. 22 And Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah. 23 And Lamech said to his wives: “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice. Wives of Lamech, give ear to my saying. For I have slain a man for my wound, || Even a young man for my hurt. 24 If Cain will be avenged sevenfold, || Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”

25 And Adam again knew his wife, and she gave birth to a son, and called his name Seth (which means Granted), saying “For God has appointed for me another seed instead of Abel, for Cain killed him.” 26 And for Seth, for him also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. Then calling on the name of YHWH was begun.
