Exodus 7

1 And YHWH said to Moses, “See, I have given you as a god to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron is your prophet. 2 You speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron speaks to Pharaoh, and he will send the sons of Israel out of his land. 3 And I will harden the heart of Pharaoh, and will multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt, 4 and Pharaoh will not listen, and I will have put My hand on Egypt, and will bring out My hosts, My people, the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by great judgments. 5 And the Egyptians will know that I am YHWH, in My stretching out My hand against Egypt. And I will bring out the sons of Israel from their middle.” 6 And Moses did—Aaron also—as YHWH commanded them. So had they done. 7 And Moses was 80 years old, and Aaron was 83 years old, in their speaking to Pharaoh. 8 And YHWH spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, Give a wonder for yourselves. Then you will say to Aaron, Take your rod and throw it before Pharaoh—it becomes a dragon.” 10 And Moses went in—Aaron also—to Pharaoh, and they did so as YHWH had commanded. And Aaron threw his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a dragon. 11 And Pharaoh also called for wise men and for sorcerers. And the enchanters of Egypt, they also, with their enchanting flames, did so, 12 and they each threw down his rod, and they became dragons, and the rod of Aaron swallowed their rods. 13 And the heart of Pharaoh was strong, and he had not listened to them, as YHWH had spoken. 14 And YHWH said to Moses, “The heart of Pharaoh is hard, he has refused to send the people away. 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning, look, when he is going out to the water, and you will stand to meet him by the edge of the River, and the rod which was turned to a snake you take in your hand, 16 and you will say to him: YHWH, God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying, Send My people away, and they serve Me in the wilderness. And look, you have not listened until now. 17 Thus said YHWH: By this you know that I am YHWH. Look, I will strike with the rod which is in my hand, on the waters which are in the River, and they will be turned to blood, 18 and the fish that are in the River will die, and the River will stink, and the Egyptians will be weary of drinking waters from the River.” 19 And YHWH said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, Take your rod, and stretch out your hand against the waters of Egypt, against their streams, against their rivers, and against their ponds, and against all their collections of waters. And they will be blood—and there will be blood in all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in those of stone.” 20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as YHWH had commanded, and he lifted up his hand with the rod, and struck the waters which were in the River, before the eyes of Pharaoh and before the eyes of his servants, and all the waters which were in the River were turned to blood, 21 and the fish which were in the River had died, and the River stank, and the Egyptians had not been able to drink water from the River. And the blood was in all the land of Egypt. 22 And the enchanters of Egypt did so with their secrets, and the heart of Pharaoh was strong, and he had not listened to them, as YHWH had spoken, 23 and Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and had not set his heart even to this. 24 And all the Egyptians sought water all around the River to drink, for they had not been able to drink of the waters of the River. 25 And seven days were completed after YHWH’s striking the River.
