Exodus 3

1 And Moses had been feeding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, priest of Midian, and he led the flock behind the wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb. 2 And the Messenger of YHWH appeared to him in a flame of fire, out of the middle of the bush, and he saw, and look, the bush was burning with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, “Now I turn aside and see this great appearance. Why is the bush not burned?” 4 And YHWH saw that he had turned aside to see, and God called to him out of the middle of the bush and said, “Moses! Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 And He said, “Do not come near here. Cast your shoes from off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6 He also said, “I am the God of your father, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look toward God. 7 And YHWH said, “I have certainly seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry because of its exactors, for I have known their pains. 8 And I will go down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to cause them to go up out of the land to a land good and broad, to a land flowing with milk and honey—to the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 9 And now, look, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them/ 10 And now, come, and I will send you to Pharaoh—and bring out My people, the sons of Israel, from Egypt.” 11 And Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring out the sons of Israel from Egypt?” 12 And He said, “Because I am with you, and this is the sign to you that I have sent you: in your bringing out the people from Egypt—you will serve God on this mountain.” 13 And Moses said to God, “Look, I will come to the sons of Israel, and will say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you. And they will say to me, What is His name? What should I say to them?” 14 And God said to Moses, “I AM THAT WHICH I AM.” He also said, “Say this to the sons of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.” 15 And God said again to Moses, “Say this to the sons of Israel: YHWH, God of your fathers, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name to a distant age, and this is My memorial, to generation to generation. 16 Go and gather the elderly of Israel, and say to them: YHWH, God of your fathers, has appeared to me, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, I have certainly inspected you, and that which was done to you in Egypt. 17 And I say that I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey. 18 And they will listen to your voice, and you will enter, you and the elderly of Israel, to the king of Egypt, and you will say to him: YHWH, God of the Hebrews, has met with us. And now, please let us go a three days’ journey into the wilderness, and we will sacrifice to our God YHWH. 19 And I, I know that the king of Egypt will not permit you to go, unless by a strong hand, 20 and I will put out My hand, and will strike Egypt with all My wonders, which I will do in its middle—and afterward he will sends you away. 21 And I will give the grace of this people in the eyes of the Egyptians, and it will come to pass, when you go, you will not go empty. 22 And every woman will ask from her neighbor, and from her who is sojourning in her house, for vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and you will put them on your sons and on your daughters, and will spoil the Egyptians.”
