Deuteronomy 16

1 “Observe the month of Abib, and you will make a Passover to your God YHWH, for in the month of Abib your God YHWH had brought you out of Egypt by night. 2 And you will sacrifice a Passover to your God YHWH, of the flock and of the herd, in the place which YHWH chose to cause His name to stay there. 3 You will not eat any fermented thing with it. For seven days you will eat unleavened things with it, bread of affliction (for you have come out of the land of Egypt in haste), so that you remember the day of your coming out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life. 4 And leaven will not be seen with you in all your border for seven days, and there will not remain any of the flesh which you sacrifice at evening on the first day until morning. 5 You will not be able to sacrifice the Passover within any of your gates which your God YHWH has given to you, 6 except at the place which your God YHWH chose to cause His name to dwell—there. You will sacrifice the Passover in the evening, at the going in of the sun, the season of your coming out of Egypt. 7 And you will cook and eat in the place on which your God YHWH fixed, and turn in the morning and go to your tents. 8 For six days you will eat unleavened things, and on the seventh day will be a restraint to your God YHWH. You will do no work. 9 You will number seven weeks for yourself. You will begin to number seven weeks from the beginning of the sickle among the standing grain, 10 and you will observe the Celebration of Weeks to your God YHWH, a tribute of a free-will offering of your hand, which you will give as your God YHWH blesses you. 11 And you will rejoice before your God YHWH, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your handmaid, and the Levite who are within your gates, and the sojourner, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are in your middle, in the place which your God YHWH chose to cause His name to stay there, 12 and you will remember that you have been a servant in Egypt, and observe and do these statutes. 13 You will observe the Celebration of Shelters for yourself for seven days, in your ingathering of your threshing-floor and of your wine-vat. 14 and you will rejoice in your celebration, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your handmaid, and the Levite, and the sojourner, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your gates. 15 For seven days you will celebrate before your God YHWH in the place which YHWH chose, for your God YHWH blesses you in all your increase and in every work of your hands, and you will be only rejoicing. 16 Three times in a year all of your males will appear before your God YHWH in the place which He chose: in the Celebration of Unleavened Things, and in the Celebration of Weeks, and in the Celebration of Shelters. And they will not appear before YHWH empty. 17 Each will give according to the gift of his hand, according to the blessing of your God YHWH, which He has given to you. 18 You will set for yourself judges and authorities within all your gates which your God YHWH has given to you, for your tribes. And they will judge the people with a righteous judgment. 19 You will not turn aside judgment. You will not discern faces, nor take a bribe, for the bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous. 20 Righteousness—you pursue righteousness, so that you live and possess the land which your God YHWH has given to you. 21 You will not plant an Asherah of any trees for yourself near the altar of your God YHWH, which you made for yourself, 22 and you will not raise up any standing image for yourself which your God YHWH hates.”
