1 And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Make two trumpets of silver for yourself. You make them of beaten work, and they will be for you for the convocation of the congregation, and for the journeying of the camps. 3 And they will blow with them, and all the congregation will assemble to you at the opening of the Tent of Meeting. 4 And if they blow with one, then the princes, heads of the thousands of Israel, will assemble to you. 5 And you will blow—a shout, and the camps which are encamping eastward will journey. 6 And you will blow—a second shout, and the camps which are encamping southward will journey. They blow a shout for their journeys. 7 And in the assembling of the assembly you will blow, and will not shout. 8 And sons of Aaron, the priests, will blow with the trumpets. And they will be for a continuous statute to you throughout your generations. 9 And when you go into battle in your land against the adversary who is distressing you, then you will shout with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before your God YHWH, and you will be saved from your enemies. 10 And in the day of your gladness, and in your appointed times, and in the beginnings of your months, you will also blow with the trumpets over your burnt-offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace-offerings, and they will be for a memorial to you before your God. I am your God YHWH.” 11 And it came to pass, in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth of the month, the cloud had gone up from off the Dwelling Place of the Testimony, 12 and the sons of Israel journeyed in their journeys from the wilderness of Sinai, and the cloud stayed in the wilderness of Paran. 13 And they journeyed at first by the command of YHWH in the hand of Moses. 14 And the standard of the camp of the sons of Judah journeyed in the first place, by their hosts, and over its host was Nahshon son of Amminadab. 15 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Issachar was Nathaneel son of Zuar. 16 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun was Eliab son of Helon. 17 And the Dwelling Place had been taken down, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari had journeyed, carrying the Dwelling Place. 18 And the standard of the camp of Reuben had journeyed, by their hosts, and over its host was Elizur son of Shedeur. 19 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Simeon was Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai. 20 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Gad was Eliasaph son of Deuel. 21 And the Kohathites had journeyed, carrying the Dwelling Place, and the others had raised up the Dwelling Place until their coming in. 22 And the standard of the camp of the sons of Ephraim had journeyed, by their hosts, and over its host was Elishama son of Ammihud. 23 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh was Gamalial son of Pedahzur. 24 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin was Abidan son of Gideoni. 25 And the standard of the camp of the sons of Dan had journeyed (rearward to all the camps), by their hosts, and over its host was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai. 26 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Asher was Pagiel son of Ocran. 27 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali was Ahira son of Enan. 28 These were the journeys of the sons of Israel by their hosts when they journeyed. 29 And Moses said to Hobab son of Raguel the Midianite, father-in-law of Moses, “We are journeying to the place of which YHWH had said, I give it to you. Go with us, and we will do good to you, for YHWH had spoken good concerning Israel.” 30 And he said to him, “I will not go. But I will go to my land and to my family.” 31 And he said, “Please do not forsake us, because you have known our encamping in the wilderness, and you have been to us for eyes. 32 And it has come to pass, when you go with us—indeed, it has come to pass—that good which YHWH does kindly with us, we have done it kindly to you.” 33 And they journeyed from the mountain of YHWH a journey of three days. And the Ark of the Covenant of YHWH was journeying before them for the journey of three days, to spy out a resting place for them. 34 And the cloud of YHWH was on them by day, in their journeying from the camp. 35 And it came to pass in the journeying of the Ark, that Moses said, “Rise, O YHWH, and Your enemies will be scattered, and those hating You will flee from Your presence.” 36 And in its resting he said, “Return, O YHWH, to the myriads, the thousands of Israel.”
